The Monsoon Arcade
อาร์เคดฤดูมรสุม

[ Film / Synopsis ]
A teenage repair apprentice enters a flooded arcade where every broken cabinet opens a musical route through the neighbourhood’s remembered games.
When monsoon water reaches the floor of her uncle’s ageing arcade, apprentice technician Dao tries to save the cabinets before the power is cut. One damaged machine boots into a playable map of the surrounding neighbourhood, and each repaired cabinet adds a new musical route: market percussion, ferry-engine bass, bicycle-bell melody, and the clipped rhythm of old coin mechanisms. Dao moves through the animated city following a score assembled from authored game states and live audience tempo choices. The route can change, but the story’s emotional turns, character performances, and final destination remain fixed. Realtime rendering lets puddles, signage shapes, crowds, and transitions respond without copying the look of any existing game. The short joins game design and cinema around a shared language of timing, navigation, and replay, while its handmade controller props keep the adventure rooted in a specific family workplace.
“For translating game-state logic into buoyant musical cinema, joining audience-responsive pacing, realtime animation, and local arcade culture within a compact dramatic form.”International Jury citation

Where this film points
- Realtime neural rendering
- Agentic narrative systems
- Procedural world simulation
The film demonstrates game-state systems becoming concise cinematic grammar for music, pacing, and replay. It anticipates cross-industry teams shipping responsive shorts with fixed dramatic authorship and flexible presentation.
The filmmakers and game designers alone authored the characters, music, emotional turns, and limits placed on audience control.

[ Cabinet Four Finds Bass ]
Dao reconnects a soaked arcade board and the animated neighbourhood acquires a low ferry-engine rhythm. Audience tempo changes the route’s pace, not its destination.

How the film was made
The record distinguishes authored decisions, bounded machine operations and final human approvals across the production chain.
Designers authored routes, cabinet histories, musical states, and fixed emotional turns before connecting them to audience tempo input.
Actors and motion performers established every character beat, with runtime variation limited to spacing, reaction windows, and route order.
Realtime animation combines original game geometry, hand-painted textures, controlled cameras, and procedural reflections within a fixed neighbourhood map.
The runtime sequencer adjusts route duration and transition density while protected story beats keep the short coherent across presentations.
Authored musical stems respond to cabinet state and audience tempo, while dialogue, melody identity, and safety cues remain unchanged.
The team archived route graphs, original assets, permissions, input limits, render settings, music states, session logs, and the festival build.
“For translating game-state logic into buoyant musical cinema, joining audience-responsive pacing, realtime animation, and local arcade culture within a compact dramatic form.”

Reviewer-ready evidence
The record links every route, cabinet, performance beat, musical state, camera rule, and transition to its human author.
Performance, voice, music, artwork, controller, and location permissions define interactive use, duration, scope, and withdrawal procedures.
Realtime lineage, original asset sources, procedural settings, route seeds, constraints, and excluded visual references are preserved.
The delivery contains the runtime build, linear capture, picture assets, mix stems, subtitles, access mode, and checksum record.
