Film overview

Recognises a method or organised practice that realises creative intent: problem definition, selection and control, revision, verifiability and continued use.

Provide the associated work, key decisions and input/output examples. Node count, tool cost and automation rates are not achievements in themselves. Open source is not required; central claims must be assessable under reasonable confidentiality.

The three Silver awards assess methods, digital characters and worlds, not film placements. The achievement must be demonstrated in an eligible work submitted to this edition; that film need not first be shortlisted for the main competition. Existing achievements must identify the submitted version and distinguish earlier from new contributions.

This overview accompanies the published guidance. Consult the current official documents for rules and permissions.

Four assessment dimensions

  1. Problem and creative value
  2. Intent, selection and control
  3. Verification and robustness
  4. Continued use and handover

Can I enter a method built with commercial models or a closed workflow?

Yes, if your team devised or substantially improved the method and demonstrates it in an eligible submitted work. Using a general-purpose tool is not itself the achievement. Open source is not required; central claims must be verifiable under reasonable confidentiality.

What evidence should I prepare for Creative Method?

Provide the associated eligible work, a method explanation, input/output comparisons, key human decisions and one representative repeat test. Claims of speed, cost or quality improvement need comparable baselines and conditions. Repeatability means achieving the creative goal, not necessarily identical pixels.

Which awards are available in 2027? Do I need seven separate applications?

There are seven awards: the Golden Unicorn Grand Prix; Silver Unicorn awards for Creative Method, Digital Character and Worldbuilding; and Unicorn awards for Narrative, Audiovisual and Experiential Innovation. Use one work entry and add specific evidence for the Silver achievements you submit. Applicable awards for the same work carry no extra award application fee and do not require four INDEX purchases.
